The ‘backbone’ – the strength – of any Christian ministry is prayer. It is possible to do without many things in ministry, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to do without prayer! That is why in our Office we have regular times for prayer. Everything stops during those times. Some would regard this as unnecessary, or an inconvenience; we regard it as essential. One of the reasons why this letter is written is to encourage you, the reader, to pray!
Personally, I have made several resolutions in prayer for 2017. The first is to pray for the leadership of GFF. I (Bruce) am getting older, and the time is coming for my replacement. While I have no plans to retire, more help is needed in leadership. We have much, MUCH to praise the Lord for, not the least of which is our stability when many ministries are experiencing problems. We have much for which we may thank the Lord.
Second, I am praying for numerical growth. As most of you are aware, the world’s population is exploding! And it is exploding in most of the areas where Christians are in the minority. The Lord has opened up many of these areas for missionaries to go, but we do not have missionary personnel to send. 1 Tim 2.4 states clearly what the Lord desires, “who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” The Lord is more interested in the salvation of men than many of us are. GFF does not desire numbers for the sake of numbers, as there are many ways to acquire numbers. We desire those chosen by the Lord to do His work in ways that please HIM.
Third, I am praying for my personal witness. I do not have a lot of exposure to non-believers in my ministry, and it is easy to forget that there is a lost and dying world right at our (my) fingertips. Everyone needs the Lord, and we cannot forget that.
Please join me in prayer,
Bruce P Busch
